Using Microsoft Excel

First, find microsoft excel. It is in the desk tools icon on your desktop. You may have to search through a sub folder or two, but it is there. Promise.

While it is open, check out this video on the basics of microsoft excel. The narrator is british, which makes the video entertaining as well as informative (he calls them "crisps"). Keep the video open in a browser window, and work along with him in your excel window.

Click on book 2 at the bottom of your spreadsheet to start a new page. Turn to page nine in the text, and copy the chart there into excel.

To calculate Len's regular earnings, select cell E3. Then type the following formula:
=C3*D3 and hit enter.

the number that shows up will be equal to the number in C3 multiplied by the number in D3 (the star is used for multiplication).

Use a similar method for finding his overtime earnings and total weekly earnings.

Now figure out the earnings for the five people in page 10, question 4b (copy this spreadsheet into book 3 and complete the chart).

Work through questions 3 and 5 on page 15.
